Congressional Update

The Land and Water Conservation Fund Coalition is urging members of Congress to cosponsor the LWCF Permanent Funding Act, H.R.3195 and S.1081. These bills require annual appropriation of the full $900 million authorized for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and are companion bills. H.R.3195 now has 189 cosponsors. The companion Senate Bill, S.1081, is cosponsored by 49 Senators. The goal is to convince 100 more Representatives and at least 5 more Senators to cosponsor the appropriate bill. Even though Congress is away from Washington on its annual August Recess, a legion of environmental organizations are encouraging all Representatives and Senators to join their colleagues in cosponsoring these major environmental bills.

PNTS Upcoming Webinar

Title: Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (JEDI): Part 1
Presenters: Ava Holliday and Aparna Rajagopal-Durbin, Founding Partners of the Avarna Group
Date and Time: Wednesday, September 18th at 2PM EDT
Overview: In this webinar we define basic terms like justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, cultural competency, and cultural relevance, and then lay out all of the reasons why this work (which we collectively call JEDI) is important in the particular space in which the organization operates (e.g, outdoor education, conservation, land management, environmental advocacy, youth development etc.). This webinar will help you articulate what you mean when you are talking about JEDI and why it is important to your organization. Hosted by the PNTS, National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance, and American Trails.

2020 National Trails Workshops

Join fellow staff, volunteers, and agency partners for the 2020 National Trails Workshops (previously scenic and historic trail workshops) to be held in Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, May 18-21, hosted by the Continental Divide Trail Coalition, and Morganton, North Carolina, October 26-30, hosted by the Overmountain Victory Trail Association. Topics will include trail land acquisition, management, administration, development, and community outreach. Additional information will be coming soon.

Please note: The new name National Trails Workshops is replacing both National Scenic Trails and National Historic Trails Workshops moving forward. Although they may be hosted by a scenic or historic trail, both workshops are open to anyone within our trails community who finds the content relevant.

Happy Trails, Chelsea Bodamer!

Chelsea Bodamer has accepted a position with the University of Western Washington and will be departing from her Outreach and Youth Programs Coorindator role with the PNTS. Chelsea became a Trail Apprentice in 2014 and joined the PNTS staff in 2015. In her work for the Partnership, Chelsea has actively recruited new staff members and Trail Apprentices, developed a new and innovative communications plan, and planned and executed several national conferences and workshops. Chelsea also envisioned, designed, and implemented monthly informational and training webinars and a trail intern grant program. Her dedication, growth mindset, and passion for the trails will be greatly missed. The Partnership for the National Trails System sincerely thanks Chelsea for her incredible work and wishes her well on her new career endeavors. See you on the trail!
