Congressional Update: House Appropriations Committee Recommends Increased Funding for Fiscal Year 2020

On May 22, the House Appropriations Committee voted out the Interior Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2020, recommending increased funding for the land managing agencies and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The bill voted out of the Committee provides $524 million for LWCF, 20% more than Congress appropriated for fiscal year 2019 and the highest funding level since 2003. The bill also includes $2.65 billion for Operation of the National Park System, $144 million more than the fiscal year 2019 enacted level. This increase includes funding for 500 new staff at park units. This is the budget account that provides funding for the 23 national scenic and historic trails administered by the National Park more
